This study aims to determine the effect of applying the techniques of investigation on the ability to write short stories contain the study population is all students of class X Yayasan Perguruan Nasional Petatal shaving in the 2015/2016 school year, amounting to 5 classes with 140 students enrolled. This study used a sample of 71 people. The method used in this research is quantitative method with an experimental approach. So there is a significant impact on the ability of investigative techniques of essay writing narrative
